Yog Ved Shala - Online Classes

Staying true to our vision – to create strong practitioners of traditional and authentic Yog  –  we at Yog Ved Shala have adjusted our schedule to the challenges of the current pandemic. We now offer daily online group as well as personalized classes for practitioners at all levels. At first glance, it may seem easy to attend a guided class from the safety and comfort from one’s home via a video-call-experience. However, in reality, it requires a certain amount of preparation, alertness, and intelligence from the student to follow instructions and the corrections of the teacher properly in order to fully benefit from the class.

Since our practice is of a serious, inward, and disciplined nature, focusing on the theoretical and practical aspects of the eight limbs of Yog throughout the time we spend on (and off) the mat, we at Yog Ved Shala have experimented a lot to translate this dedication onto the digital space. While we can’t offer you a safe and distraction-free space in our own Shala due to the confusing times we all currently live in, we trust that you as a serious and motivated practitioner of Yog will create the same within your own personal space – and thus make the preparation for each class an important part of the practice itself.

Online Class Preparation List

·      Space Requirements: Your mat has to be placed in an area with access to an empty wall, and with enough light for the duration of the class.

·      Technology Requirements: Make sure your laptop is sufficiently charged or connected to a power source, that it is connected to a strong and stable WIFI signal, and that a working camera can capture your practice space in an angle for the teacher to see you, and be able to correct you accordingly. Please keep the microphone on mute, except when you have a question to ask.

·      Props: Since we practice Yog in the tradition of BKS Iyengar, we use many props during the class, such as belts, blankets, bolsters, bricks, and chairs. Please keep all items handy throughout class. If you don’t have any of those props, you can start with towels and pillows, and purchase all others over time on this website: https://yogikuti.com

·      Timings: Our online classes start on time, which means that the student must have finalized the set-up of their space, and the adjustment of the camera and WIFI before the class starts. We recommend logging in at least 10 minutes before.

·      Physical & Mental Preparation: In order to be fully prepared for the class, we ask our students to warm-up their bodies on their mat at least 15 minutes before the starting time. We recommend that you attend morning classes on an empty stomach, and to not look at the phone, if possible, until the class is over. This will allow you to keep your mind free and un-distracted. The night before, eat a light meal, and go to bed on time.

·      After Class: Take your own sweet time to get out of savasana, and end your practice with a prayer of gratitude. After you leave your mat, wait for 20-30 minutes to eat.

·      Other Notes: It is important to understand one’s own physical limitations, and to listen carefully to the instructions and corrections of the teacher since no physical assistance during the asana is possible. Please share before-hand, any previous injuries or diseases, and convey any pain or discomfort during the class immediately to the teacher.

I stumbled upon Shraddha’s yoga class on TataSky and as an injured runner. What followed was a beautiful learning curve on mindfulness, yoga and breathing via TV. I was destined to seek her out in person, and that led to me signing up long-term, to experience and learn the nuances of Ashtanga Yog, guided by Shraddha. Many sessions and two wilderness retreats later, I feel blessed to have switched on TV that evening 6 years back. Wish you all the joys of self discovery!!
